Top Ten Reasons to Read Flat-Out Love by Jessica Park
10. There’s a twist you won’t see coming. I like to think that I’m pretty savvy to the whole “surprise, there is no Keyser Söze” thing. Usually, I can see something coming a mile away. And I really thought I had this one figured out. Then I wasn’t sure. Then I definitely knew it. The clues kept changing, so I really was surprised when the big reveal happened.
9. It’s a New Adult novel. In the little niche between Young Adult and General Fiction, there are few options featuring protagonists who are older teens, or younger adults. I love me some ya titles, but I also enjoy the in-between ones that remind me of the awkward times I went through during my earlier adult years.
8. Matt. He’s nerdy and serious and funny and dark. He cares about his family and wants to take care of them and 
protect them from being hurt.
7. The characters are real and relatable. Julie is struggling with her desire to help Celeste and her desire to have a normal college freshman experience. Matt is serious and hard-working, torn between berating his family for not doing things right and caring for his innocent little sister. Finn is living the best life he can under the circumstances. Celeste is young and immature, but she’s coping with her family’s dysfunction the best way she knows how. Jessica manages to make them all seem real and it’s incredibly easy to lose yourself in the story.
6. The humor is fantastic. Between Matt’s nerdy font jokes and Julie’s sarcasm, I laughed out loud several times while reading it. And then add in Celeste’s unique personality traits that everyone treats as if they’re no big deal, and the laughs add up.
5. It features a strong female main character. Julie isn’t a waifish blank slate looking for a man to complete her. She is strong and knows what she likes. She has a great sense of humor and isn’t afraid to tell people what she’s thinking. She cares for the Watkins family and wants to do what she can to help Celeste work through her problems. She’s patient and actually cares about her schoolwork.
4. Matt. He has a dry, geeky sense of humor and can laugh at himself.
3. Jessica and Digiglyph are creating an amazing app for the book that will take the readers inside the story. How freaking cool is that? It will turn this amazing book into a whole new experience. 2. The romance is out of this world. It’s both subtle and outright. It’s sweet and all-encompassing. It’s everything I want in a romance.
1. Matt. Trust me, he’s reason enough to read this book.

I’ve been hearing a lot about this New Adult category (and I love how accurate it describes people like me, who are in between that young adult, actual adult stage in life). Matt and Julie sound like people I know in real life, and any book with nerdy jokes and strong female characters is a win for me. I’ll definitely be checking this out! Thanks for the recommendation!
