The Book Blogger Hop is a recently resurrected weekly meme now hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. Today’s questions asks:
If you don’t like a book that you said you would review, do you graciously turn it down and explain why or do you struggle through it and hopefully come up with a half decent review?
I’ve been in this situation more than once. When I don’t like a book I’m reading for a book tour, I contact the author/publisher/tour organizer and say something like “I’m not going to be able to give this book at least 3 owls. Is there an alternate post you’d like me to put up?” Generally, I’ll get an interview or guest post to put up that day. Then I wait at least a month before I post the review on my own.
But for regular review books, I’m going to post the review, even if I absolutely hated it. That’s the point of this blog – to tell you what I think of books. Not just the good, but the bad as well.
Do you agree with my policy? Would you rather read only glowing reviews, or do you also appreciate the not so great reviews as well?
